Zoom Author Talk: In Conversation with Jane Gilmore

August 26 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm AEST

In conversation with Jane Gilmore

Please note: This event is designed for adults due to the potentially sensitive nature of some content.

As stories of male high school students ranking their female peers via sexualised spreadsheets continue to hit the headlines, it’s clear that education around treating girls and women with respect needs to be examined more closely. In Jane Gilmore’s insightful new book, she explores what fairy tale princesses, myths and the Fixed It project have in common. In this important online event, Jane talks with writer and interviewer Claire Halliday to discuss how parents, carers and educators can work together to help support young people and reduce the risks of gendered violence.

This event will be held via Zoom.

Jane Gilmore is an author, journalist, feminist, and consent educator. She has been researching and writing about the causes and effects of violence and poverty for over a decade and is now also  delivering consent and respectful relationships education in Australian schools. In 2014 she started the FixedIt campaign, pushing for change in the way media reports on men’s violence against women. Five years later she published a book about everything she had learned about men’s violence, women’s (mis)representation and the media. Fixed It was published by Penguin Random House in 2019.

In 2020 she wrote the work section of the book Work Love Body published by Hachette in 2021. In 2022 she wrote Teaching Consent, was published by Body Safety Australia in 2022. Her latest book, Fairy Tale Princesses Will Kill Your Children was published in 2023.

Claire Halliday is a freelance writer, author, copywriter and interviewer, with five non-fiction books and numerous articles in leading publications. She is currently working on a new book and accompanying podcast. Claire hosts regular In Conversation events for libraries, bookshops and organisations, and her insightful questions always make for an enjoyable evening.
